As a young adult some years back, i found myself in a mild argument with some group of friends who individually disagreed on what acne meant or looked like. Some argued that they didn’t have acne that what they had as then was pimples. A few others pointed out that they had never had acne in their lives except for a few blackheads here and there. While others wondered if the white heads they had on their face be construed as acne or pimples…lol, funny right?
Funny enough, we all had acne then. Dermatologists generally classify zits, blackheads, whiteheads and red bumps as acne. Basically, they are all different forms of acne. But what could be the cause of this minute little pest on our face?
So if you look closely at your skin, you would notice the tiny little individual pores (this would be much easier for those with oily skin to identify). Now at the base of those pores, that’s where oil is produced on the skin. So picture your face secreting so much oil, throw in a couple of excess dead skin cells(enough to clog the pores) and voila! your skin just produced a pimple all by its self. My apologies if I made that sound so glamourous, it shouldn’t be. So back to the matter at hand; most times it is not so cut and dry because stress has also been known to trigger breakouts on the skin, hormonal changes as well have also contributed. However, the first scenario is responsible for a large number of breakouts in quite a number of people so it certainly does count.
So what’s up with the blackheads, whiteheads and red heads (pun intended)?
Whiteheads are also known as closed comedo. This occurs when oil, dirt and bacteria become trapped within your pores.
Blackheads-also called open comedo and are caused when melanin on the skin is oxidized. It often appears black or dark brown in colour.
Is it treatable?
Actually, yes it is. There are a whole lot of natural and safe ingredients you can use to treat your acne breakouts without necessarily breaking the bank or going toxic.
- Egg whites are awesome for treating acne, applying it on as mask also helps to absorb excess oil away from the skin.
- Dried Orange peel powder
- Aloe vera
- Tea tree essential oil
- clove oil or powder
- lemon juice
Our Acne treatment lotion and soap all contain most of these amazing ingredients. There are a couple of more others but let’s halt here for today. In subsequent post i would be delving into it a bit more.
Until then, stay beautiful.
